Devils Tower, WY

Yesterday on a (foolish) whim I decided to hike up to the Tower from the campground and then hike the loop around the Tower. It was uphill for the first 2 miles but a nice walk overall. My pictures are all on my phone, apologies.

Paved path around the Tower. This Tower is in the 1977 movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

My steps yesterday!!!

Today we are going to Rapid City, SD. Yay, a new State!

  1. Thanks for the GREAT photos of the tower and environs! It’s awesome that you would sprint up to the top to survey and capture the whole experience. Mama Marjorie would be very plelased to see your energy and gorgeous photographic work! I really enjoy traveling along with you and Vic (and Zoe). — Linda T.

      1. Imagine that . . . one-hundred! I remember your mom very vividly, and how she summoned all of my not-yet nearby neighbors at Sea Place to meet for coffee at 6930. That was when I paid a visit to actually see inside the house I’d bought over the telephone. (Some things are just “meant to be.”)

Coincidentally, my mom’s B-day was on Sept. 9. She would’ve been 111 last Saturday — also the day my brother died, seven years ago. I acknowledged their “aniversaries” by attending a Broadway-style revival of “Evita” downtown . . . a very different kind of day than yours must’ve been.

My, but you’ve enjoyed a very “big sky” kind of Summer:>) Good luck with your bargain-price paint job, back East! You and Vic will feel like you’ve got brand-new wheels underneath you when you take off on your next Big Trip. My summer activities were somewhat curtailed by a silly tripping incident on Aug. 1 that put my right hand and forearm in a cast for the month. I’m still squeezing a ball and trying to get full use back [sigh] but I AM exceedingly grateful to have all 10 digits available again.

It’s a lot of fun following you around — great armchair traveling now that I’m 80! You certainly do inviestigate interesting places:>)

Wishing you safe, smooth travels! — Linda T.

      2. Oh my, so sorry to hear about your “incident”. Hope you get everything back to normal soon! Glad you are enjoying our travels we sure are having a good time. Your mom was a special person too I think 😊. Can’t wait to get this paint job, otherwise I’d like to stay in the road. At least we have a daughter Kelly visit to look forward to in Oct. She is going to a conference in Orlando and squeezed a couple of extra days onto her trip for a visit. Stay well, take your vitamins and watch your step! XO

  2. Somehow I missed this post. Wow, hiking Devils Tower…that is impressive! I guess I can hike around our fields a little more than I do….a lot more! My Fitbit would probably explode at that many steps. 😆😁☺
