This morning we rode with Tom and Beth over to Joe Overstreet. It started with an eagle sitting in a tree.
We think the eagle on the ground moved over exposing the egret
Look at the egret trying to get away. His head is through the fence!
This spectacular sequence was all Vic. The action was about 100 yards away and through a fence. Im sure you will agree he got some great action shots.

We took these yesterday just cruising around the campground in the golf cart and driving down to the public boat launch/landing a mile from the campground.
As we approached the boat landing there were four male cardinals hopping and jumping and flying around in the bushes along the side of the road. We had to snap this photo quickly since they all flew into the thick woods on the other side of the road. If you hesitated it was all over and you missed it.
The FL state bird is the Northern Mockingbird. I think it should be the Osprey.

We saw some beautiful birds yesterday and had fun getting these shots.
The diesel gas prices are against us. It was almost $6.50 one day. Jeesh!!!
Three Lakes hunt camp has reopened and already there are 18-20 campers settled in. We stayed a few months there last winter. Now we have a year round spot at Lake Marian RV Resort so we’ll just visit friends staying there.

Lots and lots of eagles today. Up early at 5:30 and out the door before sunrise.
These we saw at Joe Overstreet. We were with Tom standing next to a field of cows. The eagles were in the far side of the field. Behind us and across the road was the nest on the back side of a huge oak tree where you couldn’t see it.
Around 10 am we went home for breakfast. We barely got there when Tom called and said there was a road kill on Canoe Creek with three eagles on it. Vic went back out and got these shots.
And Finally the shot you have been waiting for.
In case you are wondering, the road kill was a pig.
Vic also got these shots of a juvenile eagle.

We had a couple of nice days meaning sunny but not too hot. We have some images to share.
It’s ok if you don’t like this picture. I’m not a fan and I took it! Two of these birds were splashing around in the shallow water where the boats launch.
And lastly, one I accidentally left off the last post,
We were on our way into town (st cloud) and had to stop for a family of turkeys crossing (flying) the road.

Hello Friends!
This afternoon I am making manicotti. This morning we rode around and checked some of our local areas known for wildlife. So you will see a variety 😎.
We’ve had lots of rain this past week. We are happy to get it as the water levels in the lakes have been down.
The eagles were shot on Grant Bass road.

Snacks on the Road sounds better than Roadkill. Unfortunately for him, an armadillo was the snack.
We went out this morning and headed down Canoe Creek Road. Right away we saw the armadillo, recently run over, with a sole eagle feasting on it.
Pretty soon the Cara Cara arrived.
After the Cara Cara had their fill the buzzards arrived. They dragged the remains off the road into the high grass and demolished the armadillo. Cycle of life.

We have had so much fun shooting Cara Cara. We’ve seen them in several places, all nearby. We really are in an ideal birding location.

The worst of the summer heat and humidity is over and we are seeing migrating birds again. We had several conversations about going somewhere for a month where it’s cooler. Then we looked at the rest of the country and the only places cooler were either too far away and/or the elevation was too high. Next year who knows?
We have some eagle pictures to share.
There are three active eagle nests near us. One is in Kenny’s backyard. We’ve met Kenny but he’s been friends with Tom and Paul (our photographer friends) for years.
The other two are alongside the 2 lane road Canoe Creek. These flying shots were the eagles going to and from their nests. Fortunately the traffic is light on Canoe Creek in this area.

Hello Friends and Family! We are adapting to Florida summer weather. We go out in the morning and evening and stay inside in the middle of the day when it’s warmest. Many of the birds have migrated but we are still seeing some fun stuff.
We noticed a woodpecker visiting a hole in a tree and today saw it feeding a baby!!!
We only saw one baby and don’t know if that’s all there is.
