Vic’s Osprey Dive

April 3, 2026

It was another gorgeous morning at the Landing. That’s what we call the area where we sit. It’s a big area, room for all of us to sit comfortably and see all the action. Blue skies, puffy clouds, a nice breeze, boats going past occasionally, it’s just perfect. Someone always comments on what a perfect place this is and the rest of us express our happiness at being here.

This is Vic’s Osprey dive.

The capture
This is my favorite because of how cool his tail feathers look

Hope you enjoyed the show!

Sally’s Eagle

March 31, 2026

We were at the boat launch this morning, of course. This is a male eagle.

I hope you can get a sense of how exciting this was.

Coming in
Look how he uses his wings
See the fish behind him?!! He grabbed it with one talon
Adjusting how the fish is held
It’s a huge bluegill
Home to Eat!

Hope you enjoyed the show.

Local Goings On

March 29, 2026

Yesterday Paul and I went to the Kenansville Swamp Cabbage parade. This is a small town remember so the parade consisted of cowboys and girls and teenagers on horseback, the town fire truck, the kids in 4H, like that. There were several vehicles carrying kids throwing candy into the crowd. There were vendors with the usual crafts, raffles and you could get a BBQ meal. By the way one of the raffle items was a pistol. It was very warm. I got overheated and had to take my bbq meal home to eat later. Part of the meal was a container of swamp cabbage. I don’t know what is in exactly in it but it’s vile. omg. The event was fun though, Paul seems to know everyone and introduced me around.

We toured the old schoolhouse which now houses exhibits and artifacts from days long gone. One room remembers local veterans from WWII.

Another room is mostly to do with old farm stuff.

Local farmers’ brands

Meanwhile Vic went birding with Zoe and got some very fun stuff.

Red bellied Woodpecker

There’s barely any red on their bellies, don’t understand the name. But hey that’s just me. Aside from that what a great flying shot!!

Now today …

We keep one in the truck and bring it out when we are birding.

Stay safe everyone! XO

Small birds

March 24, 2026

If you can tear your attention away from the eagles having their drama, there is usually some small bird action.

Yellow Throated Warbler
Prairie Warbler
Cedar Waxwings

Near the end of the morning shoot while we were standing around talking a group of birds flew onto a bush. Before anybody could react they all flew into a dark area. I turned my shutter speed way down to 1600 and did a “spray and pray.” I could barely see what I was shooting!

Then they all flew off! The whole thing was over in a few minutes!

We also saw a pretty pair of cardinals.

Female Cardinal
Male Cardinal
Green Heron
Purple Gallinule

I like photographing the little birds, they can be challenging the way the speed around haha.

Finally here I am having fun.

Sally’s Osprey Dive

March 26, 2026

Hey, y’all I got an Osprey Dive this morning!!! Of course at the same place, the boat launch.

The action was about 300 yards offshore but thanks to Vic’s editing skills you can see it as if you were there with me.

Scouting for fish
See one!
Talons fully extended
Splashdown
Into the water
Got it!
Fish firmly in his claws
Airborne
Away he goes

This is my first dive where all the action was visible so I’m pretty happy about today.

A friend of ours and his wife John and Leslie were part of the group this morning. Leslie took this picture with her phone.

L to R Paul, me, Vic, Zoe, John

Hope you enjoyed. Safe safe! XO

Eagle Dives

March 24, 2026

We see a lot of eagles! A fun thing to do is catch them diving and getting a fish.

Now you’ll see a juvenile eagle diving.

Boat Launch

Kenansville, FL

March 20, 2026

This morning was very productive at the boat launch as you’ll soon see.

We saw a belted kingfisher, one of our favorites.

The kingfisher sits on a fence post resting in between going fishing. He hovers and then dives to get his fish. It all happens very quickly.

The Snail Kite feeds almost exclusively on snails.

We had fun watching him eat the snail

It was a gorgeous day, cool but not cold. We had a wonderful time. I hope you enjoyed.
