Another day of hard work behind the lens! Also praise to the editor 🥰.
We’ve been looking for Caracara and finally found some! They are vultures yes, but beautiful vultures. They will eat carrion but today it was just a plant.

We see eagles every day and it never gets old. We think you’ll like these two.
Vic was lucky enough to get this Kingfisher.
Lastly, here is the Great Horned Owl shot of the day.
I don’t know how we will ever leave this place. There is so much to see.
Every morning and afternoon we go out looking for birds. The weather people keep saying there’s clouds and rain coming but haven’t seen it yet.
This is a sequence of an Anhinga feasting on a catfish. He tossed it up in the air and let it drop, then grabbed it. It needs to be well lubricated to be swallowed.
We don’t know what that yucky looking thing hanging off his beak is. Probably don’t want to know!
These Great Blue Heron are sitting in a tree on the property of a man we met (Dana) down at Lake Marion, a campground/fishing marina near us.
Hard to choose a favorite
Next is a morphing little blue heron
And here it is fully morphed
Beautiful little guy
We’ve been going to Joe Overstreet every day to see what the Great Horned Owl is doing. These pictures are from yesterday.
Today we met Tom Pulice, a very likable man we first met a couple of years ago at this same spot. He’s got the bird nerd bug same as us so he is very fun to talk to.
We see eagles every time we drive up and back on Joe Overstreet.

Vic is having to work overtime editing the many many pictures we’ve been taking. There are more to come!
This afternoon we went to Joe Overstreet looking for eagles and other birds and we wanted to check a headless palm tree where an owl had nested two years ago. A friend of Vic’s happened to come along. He showed us where an owl was nesting near that headless palm tree. If the owl was looking for a secure, dark, and hard to see nest boy she found it for sure. Spanish moss is hanging everywhere and it was dark back in there.

We sure are having fun! Hope you enjoyed the show.
The morning was foggy, dense fog. Midday it cleared off but then it was hot. About 4 pm we went out looking for owls. They were sitting in trees dripping with Spanish moss and in poor lighting, making it hard to get a good shot. Thanks to Vic’s editing skills I have these to show you.

Next we wanted to check another place we often see fun stuff – Joe Overstreet – it’s a long road lined with ranches and sod farms with the Overstreet family spread at the end with a lake.
We saw two eagles sitting together! We haven’t seen a pair of eagles together like that in several years.

We bothered them and after a while they flew across a field.
We were at Clerbrook in Clermont FL for 6 days. We rented a golf cart for ease of getting around the RV resort. We visited with many residents and snowbirds and had fun catching up with people. Zoe was raised in Clerbrook and knew where she was driving through the gate. She was very excited to see her two favorite people in the world Walt and Darla.
Here’s a video I took of the event.

She goes nuts for their son Cole too but he didn’t come out.
We were saddened to see everything removed from our old site including a deck, gazebo, outdoor bar, fence, shed. Even the irrigation system was taken out. All that’s left are the bottlebrush and palm tree.
At least they left the plants
On a happier note we took pictures while riding around in the golf cart.

Now we are at Three Lakes in Kenansville, FL. This is a free place to camp. There are no hook ups so bring your own everything. This is what we enjoy the most. We are near three kinds of owls. Also eagles and Cara Cara have nests in this area. More fun pictures to come!
We are still on our way to FL. We leave tomorrow for Biloxi MS for a stay at Keesler AFB.
This first shot was taken on our way out of the campground at Fort Huachuca in AZ.
Red Tail Hawk
Next is a woodpecker right at our campsite. We stayed overnight at a crappy place that I didn’t write the name down. The woodpecker was the highlight lol.
Ladderback Woodpecker
The rest of these photos were taken here at Lake Charles.
Yesterday we left Sierra Vista AZ, planning to stop overnight at a rest area Vic found on line. The place had several 5 star ratings from previous visitors. We arrived to find most of the RV and truck parking spots filled by compact cars. Grrr!! Mind you there were plenty of car spaces. A security guard was walking around doing absolutely nothing. We decided to keep going and ended up driving 430 miles that day. It might be a new record. We ended up at a totally forgettable RV park for the night. Didn’t unhook, just left early in the morning.
Today’s stop is called Pecan Valley RV Park. We love it and may stay a few days. Spaces are all pull throughs, ginormous sites, quiet, only about 6 campers. It feels like we are in a park – a very nice and well taken care of park. The owner has chickens and fresh eggs are available.

We’ve enjoyed our 3 weeks here in Sierra Vista, AZ. Tomorrow morning we start our journey across the south on I-10 towards Florida. We love the birding opportunities there and we want to visit friends and family on the east coast.
Our first stop will be to see our friends Margo and Davey in TX.
Second stop is Clerbrook in Clermont, FL.
After a couple of months in FL we are heading up the coast visiting friends and family along the way. We’ll be in NH for the annual family reunion in July! I missed it last year so I am super excited about being there this year.
