There is always something going on at the boat launch. Here are some things we found this morning.
We love the drama of the vibrant red bird on a concrete post with a very dark background.
The Cormorant tossed this fish in the air and then took it underwater several times. Eventually he let the fish go. it was just too big.

We had a great morning, no clouds just blue skies.
Here are some of the birds we saw. I need to start with this phenomenal shot Vic took. The male was feeding the female. Either that or they were French kissing. Haha
They make a sound when they fly that sounds like a whistle.
I love the females as much as the males. The females are so pretty.
It’s a challenge taking a photo of something small like a dragonfly.

This was Vic. I had walked over to the other side of the boat launch where I saw a Night Heron but that’s a story for another post.

These were taken mostly on Joe Overstreet. The last few were at the boat launch/Landing. We had a good day. 😊
We met a woman who was looking at the burrowing owl nest. She is sure there are either eggs or babies. We didn’t go look ourselves because we didn’t want to get so close and disturb the owls. We doubt it because it’s only been a few weeks since these owls appeared in this spot. But believe me we will be checking back!

Every time he sings the red in his wings puffs out. It’s so cute.
The hawk’s expression is so funny to me. As if he is thinking what are you doing? Get out of here you weirdo!
Following this shot the hawk flew with the Loggerhead Shrike hot after him as if to say who are you calling a weirdo?! I was here first!

We rode up and down Joe Overstreet just to see what we could see. We found Cara Cara!! Even a young one!
You can see the difference in coloration between the adult and baby.
We saw a lot of other fun stuff.
I’m so hoping we will see baby burrowing owls.

We haven’t seen a painted bunting in years but this morning we saw a female painted bunting. We are starting to say what else is going to show up?!!! There is so much variety here.

Exciting news, the first one of these is new to us.
It’s a warbler with a bicolored bill. See how it’s yellow underneath? Hard to tell from these pictures but this little guy is teeny!! About 3 inches.
Yay!! A wood duck!!! Haven’t seen one in a long time. They are so cool.
