Green Heron

Victor spotted this green Heron yesterday. The bird was crouched in a blade of grass at the water’s edge and so focused on his prey (a minnow) that Victor was able to get extremely close and get these pictures. I was there too but could not get a clear shot with all the reeds blowing around.

Morning walk

I took this photo with my cell phone this morning while on Hall Road in the campground. This is a Florida Scrub Jay. I thought the background was cool, I love the braided effect of the bark on the palm tree.

Blue-Winged Teal Duck

I wanted to share this photo, not because the duck is rare or anything but because the total effect is so beautiful. The water is like liquid silver and the reflection is as clear as the actual bird. This is a female.

More from Viera

I got this shot of the American Bittern. There are two of these out there, on opposite sides of the Wetlands.

Yesterday we visited Viera and saw some fun stuff.

First, here is a glossy Ibis showing off his beautiful plumage.

Kingfisher

This is the most elusive bird, we have been trying to get a decent picture for weeks. He was sitting near the top of a tall dead tree yesterday. Vic stopped the car and I walked up. (The diesel makes a racket.) He didn’t stay long but I did get some good shots before he took off. Yesterday at Viera Wetlands.

Sandhill Cranes

We saw the Sandhill Cranes today. We are hoping to see their offspring one of these days.
