Great Horned Owls

Nov. 1, 2026

Yesterday afternoon we got this pair of mated owls. We only know which is which because they were hooting and the female has a much deeper pitch to her hoot. The male is the one on the metal rod and the female is on the post.

Male
We were taking pictures from the safety of the truck. Vic was in it, I was outside next to it. Then Vic walked over near the light pole just to see what would happen. This owl looked down at him as if to ask what do you want?
Female
The way they can turn their heads around!

Barred Owl

The barred owl is from a different day, different place. It’s a beauty.

We love looking at these owls. Hope you enjoyed it too.

Stay safe! XO

    1. Last year we were photographing barred owls at prairie lakes a hunting / fishing destination. We were both outside the truck in opposite sides of a clearing. An owl flew at me scratching my face and knocking me down. After that I’ve been very very careful. It’s on the blog if you go look at back issues.
